We compared 20 home security systems in Columbia on Google Maps · 4 listed · How we rank

A home security system is a contract as much as a piece of equipment, and the install day is only the start. Home security systems in Columbia carry Google ratings between 4.5 and 4.8, with more than 2,200 reviews between them and more than 900 for Vivint alone. The details that separate them sit in how installs go and how support answers afterward.

Short answer: Vivint has the largest review base, 4.6 stars from more than 900 Google reviews, with reviewers praising knowledgeable technicians and smart-home setup. Vector Security (West Columbia) is rated 4.8 on more than 360 reviews, and Carolina Smart Home, an ADT authorized dealer, is also rated 4.8 though its reviews raise support concerns. Read the contract terms before you sign.

How the scorecards work

Rating is the live Google star average. Review volume shows how many customers have rated each company, set against other Columbia security companies. Confidence weighs the rating by that volume, so a 4.6 from more than 900 people carries more weight than a 4.8 from a smaller base. Recency reflects how recently customers still leave reviews.

What home security costs around Columbia

Security cost depends on the equipment, the number of doors, windows and cameras, the monitoring plan, the contract length, and any activation or cancellation terms. Reviewers at several companies raise contract and billing terms, so ask each company for the full monthly price, the equipment terms and how to cancel before you sign.

Where these companies are based

Carolina Smart Home and CPI Security Systems list Columbia addresses, Vector Security is in West Columbia, and Vivint shows a Columbia location page with no street address. Searching for a home security system near me? Each listing shows a phone number so you can ask about install times for your address.

What to ask before you sign a security contract

  • What is the monthly price, and how long is the contract?
  • Who owns the equipment, and what happens if I cancel?
  • Who answers service calls, and is there a fee for a technician visit?
  • Who do I call for service after the install?
  • Can the system work without Wi-Fi if the internet is down?
