How the scorecards work

Rating is the live Google star average. Review volume is how many customers have rated the business, compared with the others in this city. Confidence weighs the rating by that volume, so a 4.9 from more than a thousand people counts for more than a 4.8 from a hundred. Recency reflects how recently customers are still leaving reviews. No business can pay to change these numbers.

What drives the cost of solar panels in Philadelphia

No reviewer quotes a system price. The factors that move a solar quote are roof size and condition, shading, system size, whether you add a battery, and how you pay: purchase, loan, lease or a community solar subscription. An older roof may need replacing before panels go on, as several reviewers of EMT Solar and Roofing and Solar Energy World describe. Ask each company for a written proposal that lists equipment, permit work and the roof.

Where these providers work

Solar States is on North American Street in Philadelphia. EMT Solar and Roofing and Sunwise Energy are in Cherry Hill, Solar Energy World is in Pennsauken and Finray Solar is in Bala Cynwyd. Searching for solar panels near me? Each listing shows a phone number so you can ask whether they work in your neighborhood.

What to ask before signing a solar contract

  • Does my roof need repairs or replacement first, and can you do that work?
  • Who pulls the permits and handles the utility interconnection?
  • Is this a purchase, loan, lease or subscription, and what are the terms?
  • What warranties cover the panels, the inverter and the installation?
  • Who do I call if the system stops producing?

Frequently asked questions

Which of these solar companies has a Philadelphia address?

Solar States is on North American Street in Philadelphia. The others serve the Philadelphia area from offices outside the city: EMT Solar and Roofing and Sunwise Energy in Cherry Hill, Solar Energy World in Pennsauken and Finray Solar in Bala Cynwyd.

Can I go solar in Philadelphia if I rent?

Finray Solar’s site says its community solar subscriptions are open to renters and need no rooftop. Solar Energy World’s site says it installs only for customers who own their property.

Should I replace my roof before installing solar?

Reviewers show both paths. EMT Solar and Roofing customers describe roof tear-offs done right before solar, and a Solar Energy World customer had a roof replaced at the same time as the install. Ask any installer to assess your roof before quoting.

What is the difference between community solar and rooftop solar?

On Finray Solar’s site, community solar means subscribing to a shared solar project and saving on your bill with no panels on your roof, while rooftop solar puts panels on your own home. Most Finray reviews describe the subscription program.

The short version

EMT Solar and Roofing is the safe default when a roof and panels come together, and Solar States is the local pick with a Philadelphia address. Finray Solar fits renters, and Solar Energy World fits owners who want paperwork handled. Get at least two written proposals before you sign.
